Recently i designed a hat, a knitted hat to wear on my head. Or rather I designed one for my daughter, that she could wear on her head.
I’d bought a skein of yarn, that made no sense apart from that it looked fun and had the same name as my daughter. Thats why i bought it, I was just meant to be something for her. With one skein of yarn of this thickness, you can make a hat, possibly a cowl, maybe even a pair of mittens. But this was meant to be worn on top of her head.
So we looked at the yarn, and decided it needed to be a big hat, with a wide brim and popcorn. You obviously need to wear this hat when you go to the movies in the winter (or summer, if you live in Norway or Alaska).
I just made the hat, no pattern, just ideas, and it worked. As you do, I posted a photo on Instagram, and someone fairly known in the Norwegian world of knitting and yarn, asked for a pattern. So obviously I bought another bloody expensive skein of hand dyed yarn, made the pattern whilst I knitted another hat, and gave the pattern to her!
Then the thought occurred to me, I could publish the design and make some money, maybe even enough to cover the cost of the yarn. That is my goal here. To cover the cost.
